Sendai Experimental Kitchen, also known as SEEK, will operate as a cultural and culinary bridge by organizing events and workshops where international students prepare and serve dishes from their home countries to Japanese residents. These events will not only promote cultural exchange but also serve as a training ground for students to improve their Japanese language skills, particularly those used in hospitality and restaurant settings. For Japanese participants, it will be an opportunity to experience authentic global cuisines and connect with people from diverse backgrounds. If up for the challenge, both international residents and Japanese residents are encouraged to practice speaking to each other in their 2nd or 3rd languages.
The purpose of the Discord server is to help facilitate information among the Life In Sendai members within the local community. It features a welcome board, options to organize unofficial events with members, and the ability to create posts and participate in forums on various topics, including asking questions and recommendations, buying and selling, finding groups/ event members/ volunteers, and a job board.
There are individual chatrooms for chatting in English and Japanese, as well as separate voice chatrooms for practicing conversations with native speakers. Additional language rooms can be added upon a certain number of requests.
The blog will cover a variety of topics, including recipes from SEEK’s monthly events, personal stories from participants, disaster prevention tips and resources, top pro-tips from the Discord community forum, event highlights, and other useful information and resources.
